Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe ALL that I have commanded you.”  All means everything: no area of culture is off limits.  Marriage, parenting, employment, finance…and yes, community and government.

Luke 20:25 “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”  In the American system of self-government, Caesar is We the People.

EVERY BLESSING (OR TALENT) HAS A CORRESPONDING RESPONSIBILITY.

Matthew 25:26 “You wicked and slothful servant!  You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I have scattered no seed?…cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness.”  This was Jesus’ verdict for a lazy man who was blessed with talents but failed to use them for God’s glory.  American Christians are blessed to live in the most exceptional nation on planet earth.  Have Christians been good stewards of America, or have they squandered this invaluable blessing and failed to represent God?

James 4:17 “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”  God has no tolerance for unrepentant sinners.

Revelation 21:8 “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”  Notice who our Creator mentions first of those who will be condemned to hell.  Not thieves or murderers, but the COWARDLY – the lazy “Christians” who knew the right thing to do but failed to do it.

THE AMERICAN CHURCH IS DEAD.

James 2:17, 20 “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is DEAD.  Do you want to be shown, YOU FOOLISH PERSON, that faith apart from works is useless?”  Look around your church.  You may find a lot of hand-wringing and bemoaning of “how bad things have become” in our nation.  But how many people will you find that represent God in the realm of politics or media?  Why is that?  Is it due to laziness?  Apathy?  Lack of education?  What can the church do about it?

Genesis 18:32 “Then he (Abraham) said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but this once.  Suppose ten are found there (Sodom).”  He answered, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.”  The Lord did not find ten in Sodom.  Would He find ten in Michigan?

WHAT CAN WE DO?  REPENT AND OBEY.

Jonah 3:7-9 “And he (the King of Nineveh) issued a proclamation and published throughout Nineveh, “By the decree of the king and his nobles: Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything.  Let them not feed or drink water, but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and let them call out mightily to God.  Let everyone turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.  Who knows?  God may turn and relent and turn from his fierce anger, so that we may not perish.”  Nineveh was spared because they turned from evil and repented – nationally and personally.  Will YOU turn from evil and repent?

Ezekiel 37:10 “So I prophesied AS HE (the Spirit of the Lord) COMMANDED ME, and the breath came into them (dry bones), and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.”  When God’s people obey Him, He works through them for His glory!
